Liechtenstein Travel Information

Liechtenstein Flag The Principality of Liechtenstein (German: Fürstentum Liechtenstein) is a landlocked country in central Europe. It is mostly mountainous, and lies entirely within the Alps, between Austria and Switzerland.

As of 2008, the population of Liechtenstein was estimated as being 35,446. The capital, Valduz, had a population of 5,100 as of 2009. However the largest town is Schaan, which had a population in 5,806 as of 2005.

Liechtenstein has a highly industrialised free market economy, and according to some sets of figures the highest GDP per capita in the world. It has more registered companies than citizens, and is known internationally for its low tax rates and provision of financial services. Liechtenstein is not a member of the European Union, but is a member of the European Economic Area (the free trade area incorporating both EU member states and other countries), as uses the Swiss Franc as its currency.

Product Description:
This unique book examines the history, culture, and inner workings of the seven smallest independent countries in Europe. These are among the oldest states on the continent and, despite their diversity, they have much in common. Most have relatively high per capita incomes and life expectancies, and relatively low unemployment. This narrative presents the unique issues that confront small countries, including maintaining their independence, economic viability, preserving their native languages, and sustaining their governments. The second part of the book describes each microstate in turn, showing how each one has met these challenges and adapted over time. These concise and engaging chapters contain cultural information on subjects including the arts, gastronomy, and popular tourist sites.
